GIVEAWAY!!!

A $20 gift card (via email) to amazon.com!

The doc says I'm too stressed out. So I need to get back into yoga. I mean, real yoga, not just a few stretches that I do here and there. I also need to learn to dance. Why? Because it's exercise and exercise is a great stress-reliever for me. (And because I started watching "So You Think You Can Dance", and now my greatest dream is to be at least as good as the worst dancers auditioning. I think I should be able to get there. I'm a Finn- we've been compared to passionate Latinos when it comes to music. Ha. Even still, I want to dance, and I Think I Can!)

Please tell me what your favorite workout dvd is. Yoga, dance, or otherwise. Actually, I don't care what your favorite is if your favorite is anything beyond beginner. How about you just give me a good suggestion for a BEGINNER workout.

One entry per person. Entries must be in by 11:59 p.m. (central time), Wednesday, July 29th. I will randomly draw a winner Thursday morning.

Thanks for the dvd suggestions and GOOD LUCK!!! :)

Oh, and I chose amazon.com as a prize because it is where I buy all my 'media'- books, music, dvds- you can get them for low, low prices! :)

I know Amy and Kath have a hip-hop DVD that they like. I don't know how often she checks blogs but you can ask her on Facebook. :)

I use Rodney Yee's Yoga for Beginners about every other day. Love it.

Speaking of dance, I really liked Shiva Rea's Yoga Trance Dance DVD, but the yoga sections on there were NOT beginner. I couldn't follow them at all, but the trance dance portions (you could pick and choose pieces of the DVD to play) were fabulous. I am also going to order Gabrielle Roth's 5 Rhythms Dance DVDs (there's a Power, Inner, and Outer I think). None of these are really "learn to dance" per se, more of dancing what you feel. :)

Truth be told, I dance along with dance scenes in movies like Step Up .. that's a great workout too. :)

Hmmm....none. Seriously. I've actually never tried a workout DVD. Guess I'll have to hijack some ideas from this post!

And yes. I realize that won't win me the prize. :)

Eh, I figured not everyone uses dvds to workout. Any comment gains an entry. :)

Since I only recently started to work out, I don't own any dvds..
I've been going to the gym, and enjoy it alot though
"Dance Fitness for Beginners: Daily Quickies - Ten Minute Workouts ~ MaDonna Grimes, Rania Bossonis, Suhaila Salimpour, and Jayna (DVD - Aug 9, 2005)" looks good?

I missed it! Bummer. Well, I'll comment about it anyway. I have Slim in 6 (a good workout), Billy Blanks' tae bo (hard), pilates (it's okay), some random Denise Austin one (it's okay), and Carmen Electra aerobic striptease (this one is the most fun, but I don't feel like I get a lot out of it. Aerobic-wise, I mean). Okay, now I'm officially a freak. Great.

Wow, I have a lot of workout videos! And I haven't used any of them in ages. Hence my current weight. It's time to crack them open again, I think.

I haven't used it myself, but want to get it. Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred fitness DVD is supposed to be really good. She's off of the Biggest Loser so she must know what she's talking about. :0) My sister in law uses it, and loved it. She felt results after the first day!

I don't use a work out DVD, but I have been walking with a little bit of running, and I bike too. But I need to get some music to keep me moving!I tried a pilates DVD, but it was definately not for beginners like me!

I have a couple friends who like Hip Hop Abs. And I started out with Billy Blanks. And Denise Austin.

Just come to my class. Forget the DVD's. Do you get a fitness channel? Or- go to your local video store and rent a fitness video. Much cheaper way to experiment.

I like Billy Blanks and Jillian but mostly I miss the classes at the Y. I find that I enjoy working out with a good instructor best:) (Plus being I worked there, I didn't pay for child care so it was cheap and fun). Good luck with all these options to choose from. Really, though, a good walk is awesome in itself.....

Rodney Yee yoga DVD's are very good. I really like pilates and use Winsor Pilates Maximum Burn (you work up to light weights for more results). I agree that the 30 Day Shred was awesome and would recommend it- my joints personally couldn't handle all the impact though. I don't do DVD's very often but I in my stash I also have a NYC Ballet one that I love and a ballet/pilates combo as well as some Billy Blanks ones. I think if you alternate them with your bike rides, etc. it'll stay interesting (I get bored). Let us know what you get and if you like it! :)

Laura, I invested some money in a Pilates machine (QVC.com)with a cardio rebounder, and seriously, it changed my life. It comes with the level 1 pilates workout, and combining that workout with Lance Armstrongs livestrong.com daily plate (calorie and exercise tracker) I've lost 32.5 pounds since January 29th, well on my way to my goal of 65 pounds overall. The pilates workout is a great total body workout, I never got bored with it and could do either the full workout, or bits and pieces. Once you learn the exercises, you can stop watching the video and just do it on your own. Plus, you can get level 2 and 3 once you master 1. The cardio rebounder on the machine allows you to get an aerobic workout when you want to as well. Great way to build Michelle Obama arms, legs, etc... :-)

Missed this one! Darn. :) But someone recommended yogatoday.com because they have new workouts every day.

That was over three years ago.

I still haven't been on there.

But I haven't forgotten either.

I want to get back into it again, too. (My back is always sore and always has been (long story short, my bottom vertebrae are different than 'normal') and I think that would help to strengthen those core muscles--and hopefully, help with the back!)
